A website was started to show the colored population that they are beautiful and have a place in society. It is called Black Girls Rock. Most movies and magazines picture white women. This website helps get the colored population more recognition that they should get. I think that the website is a great way to get what they want people to know across to the public. However, I don’t think that it is fair that if it would be white girls rock that it would be raciest and people would have a huge problem with it. An article in the Huffington post Why I’m Not here for #WhiteGrilsRock it talks about the website and the under coverage of colored people in movies.
Over the years race has become less important. There is still a ways to go. This website proves it. The fact that is exists shows that there is still racism. I think that it is a good website to have been created because it helps colored women be more confident with their race. All the colored women that are doing extraordinary things and not getting much coverage for it will end up on this website. Young women need to realize that they are beautiful how they are. Most magazines picture white women so it is harder for colored people to believe that because they are being told by the lack of their representation that they aren’t beautiful. It is a shame that a website like this has to be created in order for other races to feel like they have equal representation in society.
